"It's a Flop House two-fer, as we discuss Renny Harlin's Devil's Pass and have our annual Awards Floptacular."

Website Blurb[]

The solution to Devil's Kidney Stone.
In which Dan makes the mistake of thinking that, because Renny Harlin directed Devil's Pass, it would be crazy and weird, rather than draggy and significantly more boring than reading the Wikipedia page about the real Dyatlov Pass incident. Then, we forgo letters and recommendations to offer a condensed version of our usual Awards Floptacular, because no one (including us) really cared much about the Awards Floptacular anyway.

Movie Summary[]

Premise[]

Found-footage movie about some college students who travel to Russia and run into a Blairovich Project situation.

Story[]

  • To determine what happened to some Russian hikers, five U.S. college students go back to where the hikers were found dead. The students don't return from the expedition, either, and the recovered footage is deemed too disturbing for public viewing.
  • Loosely based on the real-life Dyatlov Pass incident.
  • Now I've just skipped about 40 minutes of the movie, which is mostly them walking around in the snow, just kinda doin' a bunch of nothin'.

  • The last ten minutes of this movie was a smoke bomb. A cinematic smoke bomb.

  • Also: The Net, let's not forget that. Anyway. And TRON—everyone was Tronning about, with their Johnny Mnemonics. Yeah, Neuromancing up and down, dancing on the ceiling, Kung Fu fighting, Walk the Dinosaur, all that stuff. You know—WarGames, Weird Science, Colossus: the Forbin Project, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and so forth.
